At one time or another we all need to purchase bedroom furniture. Whether you are shopping for a new set of bedroom furniture for your child or you are shopping for your first set of bedroom furniture as a young adult on your own for the first time; there are a few things you'll need to know in order to make informed bedroom furniture purchase decisions.
Bedroom furniture generally comes available in a set. This means that they are of a matching style and design. For instance, if constructed of wood then all the pieces match. They may be made of matching maple, oak or cherry wood. A set of bedroom furniture typically consists of a bed, chest of drawers and a dresser.
The difference between a chest of drawers and a dresser lies in the fact that a chest of drawers contains only drawers and the top space with no attached mirror. A dresser, which is sometimes referred to as a dressing table, will also have drawers for storing folded clothing and lingerie but it also normally has an attached mirror. A chest of drawers commonly comes with either three, four or six drawers. You'll need to give some thought to the size that you need.
A bedroom set may also come with nightstands or night tables. These also usually match the rest of the bedroom furniture. Most nightstands have one or two drawers to provide additional space for clothing or other items. They are great for placing lamps near the bed for reading.
Many people choose to also purchase a wardrobe. A wardrobe can serve a number of different purposes in your bedroom. One of the most common is to provide additional storage space for clothing if you have cramped closet space or just simply need more storage space. More modern wardrobes or armoires also work as entertainment or media centers for storing dvd and video players as well as televisions. These are commonly seen in hotel rooms, although many people are now choosing to place them in their private bedrooms.
Finally, mattresses round out bedroom furniture. Many people think that mattresses come standard with beds but this is most often not the cases. Mattresses usually must be purchased separately and should be considered as part of your bedroom furniture budget. You will need to plan for both a top mattress and a box spring foundation.
